Our Core work areas
Education
The Sukhaya Foundation is dedicated to providing comprehensive education to children and women, focusing particularly on preventing sexual abuse. Through our programs, we ensure that individuals are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize, prevent, and respond to instances of sexual abuse effectively. By empowering them with education, we strive to create a safer environment where everyone can thrive without fear of exploitation or harm.
Awareness
Our organization is committed to raising awareness about the prevention of gender-based violence and the protection of women and children from abuse. We conduct community-wide initiatives to educate individuals about their sexual and reproductive health rights, empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their well-being. By fostering awareness, we aim to address societal attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate violence and discrimination, fostering a culture of respect, equality, and safety for all.
Survival Support
At the Sukhaya Foundation, we extend our unwavering support to survivors of gender-based violence. We provide essential resources, including shelter, counselling, legal assistance, and medical care, to help survivors rebuild their lives and regain their autonomy. Our holistic approach emphasises long-term support and empowerment, enabling survivors to overcome trauma and thrive beyond their experiences of violence.
Capacity building
Our capacity-building programs empower children and women to assert agency and take ownership of their lives. We provide opportunities for skill development, leadership training, and self-defence education, equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate challenges and reclaim their rights effectively. By building their capacities, we foster resilience and empowerment, enabling individuals to lead fulfilling lives free from violence and oppression.
Our Project - Suraja Project
Our project focuses on important areas like education, awareness, helping kids survive, and building their skills. We’re working within the Suraja Project to spread the word about women and child safety, prevent gender-based violence, support those in need, and provide skill opportunities. Our projects are in line with our core values. We began our work in the Amravati district of Maharashtra, and we aim to expand to all areas of the district and state and create sustainable change in the area of gender equality.
Sahakarya (Support)
The Suraja Project is dedicated to raising awareness among youth, children, women, and other stakeholders about gender equality and reclaiming dignity. We focus on providing the necessary tools to improve civic life, particularly in education and extracurricular development for children and adolescents. Our work is currently active in five villages in the Amravati district: Wadad, Govindpur, Manjhri Mhasala, Achalpur, and Adgaon.
Nisarg (Nature)
Nisarg represents our commitment to raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health rights. This project aims to create an environment where women and children understand and assert their rights, ensuring their holistic well-being.
Swarakshya (Self-Protection)
Swarakshya emphasizes the imperative of self-protection for women and children. We endeavor to cultivate a culture where they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources to safeguard themselves against various forms of abuse, thereby fostering a safer and more secure community for all.
Understanding the Issue
The project’s goal is to combat child sexual abuse, starting in Maharashtra’s Amravati District. A 2007 national study by the Ministry of Women and Child Development uncovered alarming statistics: 53% of 12,447 surveyed children reported experiencing sexual abuse, affecting both boys (52%) and girls (47%). In 2021, 53,874 cases were registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), constituting 36% of all child crime cases. That’s nearly 147 Child Sexual Abuse cases daily, with six occurring each hour. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh reported the most cases, accounting for 30% of all POCSO cases in India. Shockingly, 94.9% of cases involved offenders known to the victims, including family members (8%), family friends/neighbors/known individuals (48%), and friends/online acquaintances (43%).
